Three things people mix up
- A feature or interview: the publication assigned the piece. This is the press Hooked Engine pitches.
- A mention or credit: your name appears because you were part of a job. Useful, and not the same ask.
- An advertisement: someone paid for the space. It can be legitimate. It is not editorial coverage, and it should not be described as if it were.
How a placement is pursued
You do not get there by tagging the outlet until someone answers. Outreach means a pitch to a person who edits that kind of story, with images and credits they can verify, sent after the story is checked. If they assign it, you cooperate with their process. If they pass, that pass is logged and the next pitch is a different desk, not a louder version of the same note.
The formats are editorial features, interviews, and digital press. The sending is media outreach.
What “review before submission” means
Before a model’s name goes to an editor, the campaign should be able to answer: What is new? Which pictures can we send? Which claims are off limits? If those answers are fuzzy, the pitch waits. A thin submission spends a relationship you may not get back.
Read publicity for models for the difference between a book and a story, then the offer on press for models. Inquire when you can describe the work without inflating it.
