Music review publicity for musicians

A review is a critic’s judgment of a recording. It only makes sense when there is music a writer can play, and a publication that runs reviews.

Who this is for

Musicians. Models are not pitched for music reviews. If you are a model who also releases music, the recording is what gets pitched here, and the model press conversation is a separate story. Start from press for musicians if the release is the news.

The work

  • Confirm there is a finished recording, a release date, and a link a writer can use.
  • Say what kind of record it is in plain language, without a paragraph of adjectives.
  • Match review desks and writers who already cover that kind of music.
  • Send the pitch early enough that a review can exist near the release, not months after the story is cold.
  • Accept the critic’s opinion. A campaign can ask for a listen. It cannot ask for a score.

What has to be true first

Credits should be accurate. Artwork and advance links should be yours to share. If the song is not ready, pitching a review wastes the only first impression that desk will give you. The release-press guide lays out the order: story and assets, then reviews, interviews, and features.

What this does not include

We do not buy a positive review, trade coverage for a fee to the writer, or promise stars. We do not pitch playlists or sell streams. This page is about criticism in the press.
